Join us for Wildmind’s 100 Day Meditation Challenge

100 day mediation challengeWe all need encouragement with our practice, and many of us need help in meditating regularly. So to provide some support that will hopefully continue long after other new year’s resolutions have worn off, we’re running a 100 Day Meditation Challenge, starting January 1, 2013.

The aim is to support people to meditate daily for 100 straight days. There aren’t any “rules” as such, but we suggest that a “sit” should consist of a minimum of five minutes of practice, which could be sitting or walking practice. Ideally, though, you’d do at least 20 minutes of meditation a day. A “day” counts as the period between waking and sleeping, so if you sit after midnight before going to bed late, that still counts.

If you have the Insight Timer app for Android or iPhone, you can use that to log your meditations.

You can let us know how you’re getting on by posting on Wildmind’s Facebook page or our official Google+ page.

I’ll try to create a 100 Day post each day of the 100 Days, so that you can post there what sitting you’ve done. There will also be opportunities to post on Wildmind’s blog, where I’ll create special 100 Day posts.

I shall, but anything but my log posts. That would be borning, right?

I’m not sure what you mean! You can post whatever you want. If it’s just a link to your latest blog post on meditating daily, then that’s fine. If you want to write more, that’s fine as well.

I’m in. How are you going to track this with Insight Timer?

Reply

Well, it’s not that we’re going to track this centrally with Insight Timer, but that you can track your progress using the timer, which logs your meditations. We did attempt to set up a group using Insight Connect, but there’s a bug in the app and people who joined the group found that their membership kept being revoked — even the person who set it up!

I just noticed that the bottom of the post was missing due to some buggy code. It’s sorted now.

And I will be meditating at 11:40 tonight for 40 minutes!

How will this work?

There will be posts like the one above, but labelled “Day One” (etc.) and people can use the comments fields to let us know how they’re getting on. Or they can post in Facebook or Google+.

1/100: January 1, 2013 — I completed a 15-minute seated meditation this morning. I don’t have a smart phone but I have a timer on the phone I have. It works perfectly for keeping time and vibrates when done instead of buzzing.

May all have a peaceful, healthy and productive New Year.
